Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
Finally got around to work on the game some. For some reason, they ships don't bounce off each other like they used to, but I made it to where they kinda grind against each other if they run into each other. Also, I had it to where you could destroy the ship bullet if they run into each other, but now they just go through. We can make this work, but I would really like to figure out how to fix it.

I think there was an update. I noticed a few odd things myself when I started work on something of my own.
What is your Bullet script read?

Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
I mark them as destroy if another bullet hits them, but nothing happens. I think it has something to do with the physics engine.

Works now. Thnx Mazer.
Now I'm debating. Now that I figured out how to fix this. I could fix the collision problem with the ships. But on the other hand. This substitute effect to where they are grinding against each other is pretty cool.
Which do you think is better? Bounce or Grinded slowly?

Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
just a look. If they run into each other, they are actually moving slower. I was thinking about adding sparks and stuff.
But now that I know about the overlap trick I might be able to reapply the bounce.
You know, I have both the previous and newer version on one file, do you want me to drop box it so you can compare the two?

Yes please.
Curious tho. What if you made this a game where you are actually trying to bounce Hot/cold items into specific goals while enemies try to destroy said items

Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
Hmmm... Sounds like it'll be more frustrating, and I think that may have been done before. You may have to explain it a bit more.
Also I'll have the dropbox file ready by some time tomorrow.

Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
I found a huge flaw with the game. Sometimes when you leave the frame, you just die. I don't know what's causing it. I checked out the every options regarding to the object being out of frame. and still nothing. however, there was this one weird thing. This glitch only happens when you go to the left/right sides. not the top/bottom.
Edit: Fixed the bug. turns out that I placed the bullets to close to the frame.

Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
Good:
Great job getting the programming proper when it comes which 'stroids you can shoot and which don't get affected.
Love the ship designs. Good use of title screen. I like that there is the 2 options in the start
Iffy - Still not convinced that ships should kill one another...I really see that as less of a challenge and more of a frustration to players. Also the speed makes it VERY hard to follow both ships.
Have you tried making the frame bigger?

Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
I stand by that the ships could kill each other. It prevents the ships from spamming the fire button. also one ship is focused on fire while the ither is ice, it makes sense that they can kill each other, it just that we don't have the enemy ai yet.
I have thought about tinkering with the speed and stuff. I'll look into that.
I could've sworn I made the frame bigger. I work on that tomorrow. What size were you thinking?
Also which level worked best for you. The one with or without the asteroids?

Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
With the asteroids as I was able to get an idea of how the game works properly :)
Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
That's good. Now I got to design the enemies.
There were two levels. You played the one with the asteroids, did you play the other one? I want to know which worked out better.
Also, how big do you think the frame should be?

Re: Hot/Cold Shoot Em Up
Also here's the story in a more details:
There are these 2 alien girls Farah and Bella. They don't like each other and they were fighting since they were kids. One Day they tried to declare space war on each other with their home-made minions. However, they both lost control of their minions and then the minions went on across the galaxy. Because of this the were arrested by the space police and were charged with war crimes and property damage. The Space judge gave them an ultimatum, Either work together and clean up their mess, or got to space jail.
The girls chose try to work together. And to make sure that they do work together instead of trying to kill each other, the Space Judge had them wear a special collar designed to explode if they try to kill each other.
Knowing what they had to do, they begrudgingly went back to their ships to perform their space court ordered space community space service. The last words they both exchanged: "JUST STAY OUT OF MY WAY!"
(which is why they go in opposite directions)

MAZER!!! I finally figured out how to change the window size! I got it set to 960 X 640.
Also, I need feedback on the character concepts.

Awesome! By the way, I changed Bella's hood into one of those Russian hats. I did this because I don't want to draw Bella in 2 different ways.-Mazer wrote:zmog the puns XD
