Rock, Paper, Scissor Puzzle Game
A rough concept. I can see this becoming something like Tetris Attack and Puzzle Fighter. I can see it having an awesome challenge mode and multiplayer too.

Re: Rock, Paper, Scissor Puzzle Game
I imagine it moving from left to right on the blue track towards the purple area at the same pace as a game of tetris.-Mazer wrote:How would you like the pieces to move exactly?
Also, I imagine the multiplayer/battle mode having two of these, heading towards the center. Player 1 will have their pieces move left to right, while Player 2 will have their pieces move right to left. Their pieces will move towards the center, and they have to switch their pieces around to where they will win a row.
I'll draw you an example of this tomorrow to show you what I mean exactly.

Okay this is how I imagine the multiplayer/quest mode aspect
I also imagine the players having a health bar and having characters represent them like in puzzle fighter.

I like the sheer simplicity of this idea.

Thnx Koenig. :3
Also I've been toying around with this one idea I had. You know how my rough concept has like 3 rows? What If it had like 6 to 12 rows? You know to make it more challenging. I keep on going back and forth on this.

More rows could work, different modes at the very least.smirkytrick wrote:Thnx Koenig. :3

Re: Rock, Paper, Scissor Puzzle Game
Okay, so I already made some of the assets. And due to the window size it looks like 9 rows is the limit.

I'm thinking either I go with 1 or 2 rows, or I resize the assets
Here it is with 3 rows:
I wanted to add some avatars, health bars (HP meter), and the score system.

Or maybe the size is fine and I could just use portraits or chibis as the avatars and use a Numeric HP instead of a health bar.

Where do you plan on sticking the hud/health bar?

At the bottom. I might just use a numeric HP rather than a health bar. Still not sure though.

Re: Rock, Paper, Scissor Puzzle Game
Okay here is a really early build of the game.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ulf0azlmn6z7638/RockPaperScissorsProject.exe?dl=0
The controls so far:
*The up and down arrows move the orange rectangle up and down. (this is used to set a restriction to the area that'll let you switch the tiles)
*Space bar or clicking the mouse will make the "Selection" cursor appear.
*Moving the mouse over the tiles will make the cursor appear too.
(note: the second row of tile on the right side are "click and drag" objects for now. It's to test the match up. If you click and drag the tiles to the other tiles the corresponding tiles will bet destroyed.)
What I need to learn how to do:
*I need to learn how to make the rectangle jump from line to line rather than moving from line to line.
*How to toggle the Selection cursor
*how to make the rectangle switch the tiles

Re: Rock, Paper, Scissor Puzzle Game
I am not certain since I have not done much programming, but I am assuming one method might be to set some pre-determined values along the y axis for each row, and programming the rectangle to match the selected rows y value right away rather than transition.
...I don't actually know for sure, but that's what popped in my head while thinking about it.

That's what I thought too, but I don't exactly know how to do that. :/

What does the code look like right now to move it from line to line?smirkytrick wrote:That's what I thought too, but I don't exactly know how to do that. :/

Re: Rock, Paper, Scissor Puzzle Game
Right now It has a 2 directional movement. I tried to make it to where it stays on the lines but every time I tried to do it it just gets stuck on one of the lines and can't move.

Re: Rock, Paper, Scissor Puzzle Game
Smirky, lemme see the files....I think I know how to make the bar jump properly.
Re: Rock, Paper, Scissor Puzzle Game
Ok here is what you wanna do...
You want to make a counter system; 1 through 3.
If counter = 1: Cursor on line one.
If counter = 2: Cursor on middle line
If counter = 3; Cursor on bottom line
If player pushes UP: Add +1 to counter
If player pushes Down: Subtract -1 to counter
If counter = 0 Set counter to 3
If Counter = 4 Set counter to 1
I use the same method as a cursor selection for levels and player selection for main menus.

Re: Rock, Paper, Scissor Puzzle Game
like when you select the tiles the purple arrow should be following right behind them.-Mazer wrote:How do you mean for Toggling Selection?
Also, I'm gonna try and test out that counter thing. I'll let you know if it works. also let me know if you can get my files.

Since I don't have the program at my fingertips while @ Work, this is the closest thing for me to explain...
Make 3 arrows. Each one following an icon. Have them invisible.
If Played Clicks Object 1, arrow appears
If If player clicks Object 2, Arrow 1 disappears, Arrow 2 appears
Or we can return to the counter system
If player clicks and counter = 1, Arrow appears behind Item 1 - disappears on 2 and 3
If play clicks and counter = 2 Arrow appears on Item 2 - disappears on item 1 and 3
And so on.
