I've been replaying Final Fantasy VI lately and fuck me, every time I get to the opera part I cry.

Ok so follow me on this:

In star wars there is a character named Rayner Thul. In the Young Jedi Knights books, he starts off as a spoiled rich kid but ends up being a noble and cheerful friend to the other young jedis. He falls in love with a Centaurian jedi named Lusa.

Fast forward 20 years. Lusa is murdered by the Vong. Rayner ends up joining a strike team to kill one of the Vong's primary bio-weapons. Rayner is knocked out and accidentally kidnapped by 2 escapping dark jedis.

They crash land on a planet full of giant bugs. Rayner saves the dark jedi but is horribly burned in the process. He manages to survive only to have his mind meld with the bugs but because of the force, he overpowers them and he becomes the dominate hive mind and is now King Bug.

Fast forward later - the bugs are defeated and he is brought back to the Jedi Order but after things go from bad to worse in the galaxy, he returns to the bugs, lets his mind meld 100% and becomes a bug worker (in mind only)

Only to have the bugsfinally exterminated and he returns as one screwed up mentally jedi to the Academy.

So. That's a thing.

Its crazy what star wars has gone through. Used to be individal struggles and stories about learning about one self. Now each new book series is 12 books long and just constant war. Sad

Didn't they just announce like 20 books to come out before the new movie? Not a good indicator if they're being pumped out that fast.

Before the Vong series, the MOST a star wars saga lasted was 3 books and that was VERY rare (off the top of my head, I can name the Heir to the Force trilogy, the Jedi Academy Trilogy, the Bug Trilogy, & the Bounty Hunter trilogy). Most were individual stories that focused mostly on the characters themselves as they tackled situations.

Like the Young Jedi books were about the characters' relationships along the way towards facing adversery. Sure every book had some kind of conflict - but they all revolved around character growth until the Vong series kicked in and made the Star Wars universe gritty. Not that it is a bad thing as a shake up like that was neccessary after so long. The downside is that instead of doing individual books again showcasing how characters are adapting to the new universe after the Vong destruction, we just jump head-long into another 10 book series that rushes characters along. So all the "Ohh! How is X going to adjust?" is thrown out the window to make room for these new gigantic wars - some of which don't even make sense.

One war for example was that Corilliea (solo's home world) wanted Independence from the Republic. The republic was all like "Hell no" and decided to make a criminal of every Corilliean born - including Han Solo and Wedge Antillis. So a new civil war breaks out which leans Jacen Solo to becoming a "dark lord" and though he wears black armor, black cape, black boots, black gloves, and takes over the Senate...NO ONE ONCE PAUSES to stop and wonder if he is becoming the new Darth Vader - which he does.

I'd pay to see that as a movie, why don't they make that into a movie instead if a new trilogy?

Well they wiped out the original EU. So they're trying to make up the time gap between Return of the Jedi and this new movie. Problem is, they're doing it way too suddenly. My reaction was the same. "20 fucking books in (essentially) a year? You gotta be kidding!"

Squirrel, all of that storyline has been erased from the "official" canon. Disney said that the only things that count are the two trilogies and the tv show...don't recall which one it was.

Depending on the authors - I have a bad feeling about this. I've heard Troy Dennings - someone I thought was awesome - is actually somewhat of a pushy author who wants to get his way no matter what which is one reason I discovered the Coriella war books were so meh.

Timothany zhan would be a great contributor. Kevin J Anderson as well but he left Star Wars ages ago.

I liked Michael A Stackpole. He wrote the X-wing series as well as I Jedi. I Jedi is freaking awesome and is the reason why Corran Horn was my favourite of the Jedi who helped Luke restore the Jedi Order.

I never finished the Rogue Squadron series D: I have no idea why. I dun think I even bought them which sucks because I really want to know about the Bacta War.

Same with I, Jedi though Corran is badass in the other books i've read.
