Re: Gen Chat VI: R.I.P. Satoru Iwata
Video game soundtracks inspire a lot of my tastes. I LOVE the WET soundtrack - almost all grindhouse/rock-a-billy style music. Twisted Metal got me heavily into Rob Zombie who in turn got me into Ozzy.
Some Mansion is very good (Sweet Dreams is amazing for me). I like rock remixes of game soundtracks also.
Artists tho - off top of my head I cannot name many...not without my ipod
Blink 182,
N-sync
S-club 7 for some pop bands...
hmm what else. Elvis is fun. Same with beetles

I never understood the hype/hate for Mighty No 9. Can someone explain the reason for all the hate?

I see it as hate because it's not living up to the hype, maybe? I dunno, I never cared about it, am not even a mega man fan to begin with.Koenig wrote:I never understood the hype/hate for Mighty No 9. Can someone explain the reason for all the hate?

The hype just soon after Capcom announced they won't be working on any new Mega Man games and cancelled the 2 that they announced. So Infune, the co-creator (I think) of Mega Man said he wanted to make a successor to Mega Man called Mighty No 9. Fans showed MASSIVE support and I think it was the first record breaking kickstarter to meet it's goal.
So they asked for like 90k or something, scored 4 million. Fans got super excited esp when the concept art came out like this one:
Then as more money came in, more rewards were made and this is where some controversy started. The game was going to be all digital but then it was announced for physical releases. WiiU, ps4, and X1 physical releases were told (wiiU coming much later) but at a specific price point. The problem is that those who wanted physical releases that already donated the new stretch goal were denied physical copies - it was ONLY for the NEW supporters of the game so all the previous fans don't get the physical copy.
The next issue came when the near final gameplay trailers were shown.
Became this:
Youtube comments from backers show many people are furious that the game looks so bland and lifeless. The art design is a huge issue with people
early gameplay/preview screenshots:
Current build:
Also the next big controversy is when Inafune announced that if Capcom wanted to publish and add money to the game, he would be more than happy to let Capcom step in. Fans were pissed seeing this as a betrayal as Capcom was the one who shut Megaman down to begin with.
Then it was shown that the levels and bosses are not "spiritual successors" but more like "copy and paste". I see many complaints that the game is practically a remake of Mega Man 1 or 2 with a dash feature thrown in. They wanted a spiritual successor, not a copy and paste.
Finally the constant delays when the game was scheduled to be released next month are really pissing people off. The reason for this is that apparently Inafune has gotten other kickstarters for other projects completed and his staff is now stretched thin because of this which is probably why the delay happened. It doesn't help that Inafune has let this game go out of control -announcing comic books and a cartoon series and even sequels already being worked on without the game even being released yet.
