Gen Chat 9: THE HORROR!

So Halo 5 multiplayer is great. The maps are a bit dull though. Nearly all of them are symmetrical "paintball" style with very little personality.

What about Halo SP?

Story is very meh, but the game play looks really fun and I like that there's a bit of an exploration factor. I want to play it, but I ain't buying it without having my own console.
It's not that I don't like sharing with my brothers, it's just that I don't like having to go to their room to play and taking the console to my room doesn't feel right.

Halo 5 story is indeed meh. I've only got two missions left and it feels like nothing hugely significant has happened. Gameplay is reliably fun though.

Kinda, but I was never hugely into Halo's campaigns and story. Mainly a multiplayer guy.

It is to me, but Halo Reach, Halo 4 and now this one have had really disappointing stories. Halo 2 was disappointing because of the cliff hanger, but is actually a lot more fun in retrospect. Halo 3 was ok, not bad.
Only games that I thought had really good campaigns are still, obviously, Halo CE and, surprisingly to many I think, Halo 3 ODST. Those 2 I would put far above the rest.

Still, Despite how disappointed I was in the story of Halo Reach, I found the game play incredibly fun and satisfying, the best to date (that I have played). I have yet to play Halo 5, but from what I've seen, it looks awesome, much much better than Halo 4.
Still, I'm a huge fan of the lore, but it really has been hit and miss. As far as the novels go, The Fall of Reach, The First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx are really good. I haven't read any of the new comics, so I can't really say, but none of them have been great. As far as animation goes, it's, again, been hit and miss. Halo Legends had some good ones and the motion comics have been pretty good, for the most part. Live action, Forward Unto Dawn was awesome, but Nightfall was not.

When it comes to FPS games....a good storyline is really the deal-maker to me. I mean I understand the focus on MP for games like Halo but outside of Splatoon or TF2, I would mostly play FPS for their story So it is a bummer.

I still need to see that live action film :3

Make it happen Nintendo! I loved the prime series for many reasons, one of which was how the story was weaved into the world.

It's important to me. I'm not as into multiplayer anymore, so I want to enjoy a good single player campaign. But the current landscape of FPS' is to pour as much resources into multiplayer as possible. Or into co-op modes. Story doesn't seem to be a priority at all. :/

And the 4 input only directional pad movement?

Naw, proper 3rd person movement. Though I won't lie, with the Wii controller, I liked how fluid it was to go from 3rd to 1st by moving the controller at the TV. It was very immersive.

imo the biggest turnoff was the controls. Just Wii Remote. 3D environments. Point at screen to do some aiming function.
