uh.... one of those is not like the other.
Sega has actually done a ton of good things in the last few years. A lot of their good isn't with the IPs sega is known for, but they have slowly been making strides to become basically the best Japanese PC developer.

They need to be shut down and their IP's handed over to devs who give a damn. Silent Hill really needs to be given to a company who knows what it is doing. Same with Mega Man and Sonic.

With that said, I don't understand why Nintendo does not jump at the chance to assimilate IP and studio's like these; they have let opportunities like this slip through their fingers before. Why Nintendo stood idly by while studios like Argonaught and Factor 5 closed down, and publishers like THQ had all their IP sold off.  I guess they are just to internally focused to really care in most situations.

no accurate net worth, but at that price you are bordering on putting a nintendo at serious risk by trying to buy them with an upcoming console launch. Beyond that a company would likely sell for more than it's net worth, likely quite a bit more since they aren't trying to sell.

Thanks to pokemon go related success and sega falling a bit nintendo is actually worth more than sega for now. but in general sega has been worth more than nintendo for the last 5-10 years. You maybe could swing a merger, but there isn't any way in hell nintendo could buy sega. Pachinko brings in a ton of money for sega.


but in general it comes down to a case of cost vs projected earnings vs getting them to sell. While it might be feesable for nintendo to buy konami really what would their IPs be good for for them? I mean they don't throw enough money behind their own IPs to hope to put enough money into a proper metal gear project. sure silent hill could be fun, but if they wanted to make that game why would they need the silent hill IP? They could just make something similar. It's just not a good fit, and in general they could make similar games with out the IPs if they wanted to, and quite frankly they would likely turn out better than using the IPs that have been drug through the mud.

and capcom... well there is monster hunter... but that is basically nintendo exclusive right now. and well smash bros is a way better game than street fighter can ever hope to be, so they really don't need a fighting game. Megaman... well why buy the company, they likely could just buy the IP instead, but well you could likely just use the metroid IP for anything you wanted to do with a megaman game. really there isn't any reason for nintendo to want to buy capcom. They basically get all the of pluses from Capcom that they would get if they owned them, without any of the negatives.

but really it typically comes down to even being able to buy stuff. Yes as a company capcom is worth quite a bit less than nintendo. That doesn't mean nintendo could afford them. It's not like nintendo can go up to them and go "you are worth 200 billion, so here is a check and we will take everything from you." typically buy outs happen at prices much higher than their value. to buy up capcom would likely take 3-4 times their total value, which is more than nintendo could afford even if they wanted to.

beyond that, even lets say the stars align and these buy outs happen. It still likely wouldn't be a good thing. a company like nintendo is only willing to commit so many resources to making games. So if they get konami rights, that likely means that any other bigger projects such as a metroid prime 4 would be scrapped in order to fund a metal gear solid game. that instead of getting a game like splatoon, a unique new IP, you would have just gotten a kid friendly version of metal gear solid. Companies buying up other companies IPs rarely turns out super well, unless they basically leave that company to continue to exist as it was such as atlus and gust after sega and koei bought them up respectively.

no, instead of hoping for another company to buy them up, which in the case of a company doing poor work almost always leads to it continuing to do poor work or even worse work. You should hope that the companies merely change. As I said Sega actually has been doing some pretty good work these last few years. That was due to a lot of company changes, and in general they seem to be going in a much better direction. Hope for that to happen to konami and capcom where the right people get in the right position and start to change the company for the better, as that is typically much better than companies being bought out, thousands of people losing their jobs, and plenty of IPs being left to rot as it is rather rare for a company to have to much money and not enough IPs. (gung ho is one of the only companies I can think of that had that problem, because puzzle and dragons made them a crap ton of money so they started buying up companies and funneling them money.)

or you know... they wouldn't not bring over a game citing low sales/ copyright issues, and then proceed to announce a sequel to that game, and expect fans to just accept copyright issues because of sherlock holmes... except... he is a public domain character (well any content that came out before 1923 is, which is most of it) at this point and thus there aren't any issues :/
