Re: GenChat VLVI: Mazer Keeps Screaming
The LOTR movies had some super shit tier cgi as well though, especially for their time which didn't make a whole lot of sense.

It's not just the creatures though, it's the world in general. Every single place and scene in The Hobbit is green-screened as shit to look artificially beautiful. Whereas many scenes in LOTR were shot in the real world so it actually feels lived in, real world imperfections and all.

What pisses me off is that they took the lazy man's route and used cgi instead of miniatures.TensePsychopath wrote:It's not just the creatures though, it's the world in general. Any problems the Hobbit had with CGI were massively outweighed by its other more glaring problems with its story and lack of closure.

Shigeru Miyamoto says that the world of The Legend of Zelda on Wii U will be larger than any previous game. But just how big? Apparently the entire map of the size of Twilight Princess will only encompass one area in the upcoming Wii U title.
Miyamoto explained in a recent YouTube interview, translated by Nintendo's Bill Trinnen, that even though Zelda game's have always been about exploration, "Because of the hardware limitations, what we always had to do was segment off each area and piece those segments together in a way that made them feel like a big world. But now with the hardware capabilities of the Wii U, what we did is we first started by saying, 'Let's see what we can do if we take an entire world the size of the world from Twilight Princess and just try to make that as one area in the game."
The game will also be broken up into chunks to make shorter play sessions more manageable.
"What we're trying to do is design it in a way that you don't necessarily have to sit down and play it for a super long time," Miyamoto said. "But, kind of, more matched to today's lifestyle where you think for a little bit and say, 'Maybe I just want to play for a little bit today and do this one thing, get that done, and then take a break.'
And Miyamoto confirmed online functionality for the make-your-own-Mario-game Mario Maker. "You'll be able to see what happens when other people play your course or when you play other peoples' courses. There'll be popularity rankings for the most popular courses and things like that. So there's a lot on the community side that you can look forward to." While he explains the main draw is local co-op, he says, "Of course, we'll have the Internet ability to exchange courses as well."

I dunno how to feel about it being broken up but, god, imagine if the wii u wasn't underpowered...-Mazer wrote:Shigeru Miyamoto says that the world of The Legend of Zelda on Wii U will be larger than any previous game. Re: GenChat VLVI: Mazer Keeps Screaming
A lawsuit concerning graphics resolutions for the PlayStation 4 game Killzone: Shadow Fall has been ordered to continue by district judge Edward M. Chen on Tuesday.
The lawsuit was originally filed by Douglas Ladore against Sony Computer Entertainment America concerning the promised graphics resolution of native 1080p for Killzone: Shadow Fall. The game does render in native 1080p for single player, but multiplayer is upscaled to 1080p and blurry, according to the original complaint.
According to Eurogamer, its Digital Foundry wing looked into the matter after the game released and found that the game runs at 960x1080 with a “high quality temporal upscale.” Native 1080p runs at 1920x1080 without scaling.
A representative from Killzone developer Guerrilla Games addressed the issue shortly after Digital Foundry’s report.
“In both SP and MP, Killzone Shadow Fall outputs a full, unscaled 1080p image at up to 60fps. Native is often used to indicate images that are not scaled; it is native by that definition,” the rep wrote. “In Multiplayer mode, however, we use a technique called 'temporal reprojection,' which combines pixels and motion vectors from multiple lower-resolution frames to reconstruct a full 1080p image. If native means that every part of the pipeline is 1080p then this technique is not native.”
Ladore’s suit refers to the Eurogamer article and Guerrilla Games’ response in its official documentation.
“Nearly all of Sony’s arguments depend on this Court accepting that either: (1) Ladore did not plead a misrepresentation; or (2) Ladore failed to adequately plead reliance,” Chen wrote. “As discussed previously, neither assertion is correct. And Sony’s remaining statutory or contract arguments that do not depend on accepting either of the above propositions are equally unavailing.”
The judge wrote that Ladore alleged Sony and Guerrilla Games used a technological “trick” to turn lower resolution into a higher resolution – using the “temporal reprojection” technique to upscale to 1080p – and failed to make good on the promise of native 1080p.
Sony filed a motion to dismiss Ladore’s claims of negligent misrepresentation and the game being a “good” under the California Consumers Legal Remedies Act – commonly referred to as the CLRA. Judge Chen ruled that Sony did not engage in negligent misrepresentation, but he granted Ladore 30 days to amend the complaint for further review.
Chen rejected Sony’s motion of dismissal concerning the CLRA violation and said Sony was “mistaken” when it argued that Killzone: Shadow Fall is not a good. Chen explained that the product itself may be downloaded or obtained through a disc-based medium, but it is indeed sold within a retail store and is accompanied by a Killzone case and documentation and is therefore a tangible good. Chen also mentioned Pernne v. Sega of America, Inc. – otherwise known as the Alien: Colonial Marine case.
Chen also rejected Sony’s motion of dismissal concerning the game’s graphical capabilities disclaimed through its Terms of Service and/or Killzone Software License. Other district courts have rejected claims concerning Terms of Service agreements because the accuracy of these terms have come into question or because “there is no basis to conclude that these documents are accurate.”
According to Eurogamer, Ladore is being represented by Edelson PC. The firm is best known for going against Sega and Gearbox for Aliens: Colonial Marines concerning false advertising through unrepresentative trade show demonstrations and Electronic Arts for Battlefield 4.

Re: GenChat VLVI: Mazer Keeps Screaming
There needs to be a branch of the law dedicated to slapping lawyers who take these cases like these squarely in the face. Granted by the same merit there needs to laws in place that forbid false advertising with much greater penalties; there should not be court cases when even a 2-year old could summarize the problem.

I personally support some of these false advertising lawsuits. I'm sick of crap like Ass Creed Unity making it to the shelves unfinished.
