zulux's jury duty day. in quick journal log form (boded the start of actual interesting parts )

Start: Wake up at 5am, 30 min before your alarm in a panic.
5:00-6:30: calm self and go over everything.
6:45: get on a public bus for the first time
6:45: ask if you are on the right bus and find out you are on the wrong bus and get off in time.
6:50: get on the right bus.
7:45: make it to court house, check in, wait... wait... wait.
8:30: get repeatedly told how much of an honor it is to serve, how you have more power than anyone else in the court, how serving changes people's life... watch outdated video for 20 min.
8:50: get told it will be 20-25 min before people will star being pulled out to be selected.
9:15: get told they don't know how much longer it will be.
9:40: finally get called into the next part. Have major problems with roll call (not personally) listen to some annoying kid complain about his number being called but not being on the list.
9:45: get upstairs, have more roll call problems whiny kid whines more.
9:55; get in the courtroom, get called to the jury stand with 21 other people, whiny kid not called.

for a while get asked questions, a doctor gets annoying with how he is afraid a witness he barely knows could cause personal problems if she is involved with the case, admits he barely knows her the judge tells him to shut up.
a while later he tries again to complain and get himself excused, fails, and then suddenly pulls a "I was effected by this exact crime 10 years ago but didn't feel the need to mention it until now" and the continue to say that he couldn't ignore the crime and would do his best to convict the defendant. The judge then asks the doctor "so I am sure you have had people try to come in and scam some drugs right." the doctor responds "well yes." the judge then says "and you now just tell everyone that comes in that they can't have pain meds because people have tried scamming you in the past." the doctor was flabbergasted and basically yelled "of course not each person is different it is my professional duty to treat them as such." the judge then asked "well why can't you do that with this case." the doctor gets frustrated and then goes "because I can't, I can only do that as a professional."

this goes on for a while, the judge eventually sends him away.

10:55 or so: whiny kid who has been on the side the whole time suddenly raises his hand. the judge acknowledges him.
"AM I EVEN NEEDED HERE?"
"what do you mean?"
"I wasn't even called, even though my name is on the list."
Judge confirms that. "We have you on the list now."
"But I am just sitting here doing nothing, am I needed."
"you will listen to what is going on in case you are called to replace someone."
"even though my name is not on the list?"
"you will listen to what is going on in case you are called to replace someone."
"fine.

im mostly done with the journal time because things just blurred together from here.

we had a couple people removed.
one an older lady because she had someone killed in a manor similar to the crime.
the other was much more amusing.

"miss juror, if I sent you a birthday card it would be in February right?"
"huh?"
"your birthday is in February right? in 1973?"
"yes?"
"Then I will have to have you leave now."
"huh why?"
"do you not recognize me?"
"no, should I?"
"I am the one that previously convicted you of your past crime. That is a conflict of interest so please leave."
she left with a confused look on her face.

at this point the defense person was asking questions and boy was she annoying. she was supposed to be asking yes no questions to determine stuff, instead she basically went to a personality profiteer site and started asking random stuff vaguely related to the case.

this annoyed not only myself, but the judge himself, he made her move on a few times.

I did find out I am rare to not have a speeding ticket at all.

but we come to 11:30 or so now.
Whiny kid suddenly raises his hand again and without being acknowledged just yells out.
"Can I have a bathroom break?"
This was the last straw for the judge.
"No you may not have a bathroom break, in fact I am this close to finding you in contempt of the court. You will sit there on the bench, not make a sound, not even stretch or I will find you in contempt."
whiny kid just slinks down and behaves for the rest of it.

rest of the story is a blur, but ultimately I was not picked... yay...

I was able to somewhat come up with a minor working Ace Attorney in RPG maker :3

yeah he spent a good 5 minutes or so when the witness was first named trying to establish that she was in his department and that if she was involved he had a conflict of interest until the judge got him to finally say that he would do his best to listen to her for what she says not who she is to him.

the later part with the drugs... that went on for at least 10 minutes because the doctor just refused to acknowledge the similarities and kept basically telling the judge what he was saying was pointless and he should stop.

Great movie was Great

I felt a bit tired tonight so decided against crap ramen and went to the local burger shop (I say "local" but it is still 10 miles down the road) to pick up a burger for dinner and use up the rest of my gift card for the place.

Only to find that the building was "Closed". (Despite the sign saying open, and being well within their normal operating hours) All the doors were locked and they were not letting anyone in. They did not have the courtesy to give anyone an explanation, let alone greet us at the door to even mention that they were closed. I only found this out because on of the customers inside had the decency to mention it though a window. The store was however still feeding the people inside which added a bit of insult to injury.

I am disappointed that the store was closed.

However I am furious with them for the way they handled the situation.

That is very crappy customer service...

And very bad way to treat customers for a mom/pop store...they should be a lot more considerate

The catch is, its not a "mom & pop store", which makes my contempt for them even greater.

Welp. My mood is in the pits right now. Time to cook up some crap ramen and find something productive to lift my spirits.
