This thread is for news and politics only! Debate about religion is prohibited as well.

- Did a bill pass that you don't like and you want to rant about it? Rant and post it here.
- Is their an election going on? Talk about it here.
- Is their political figure that's pissing you off? Post it here.
- Do you want to talk about solutions to problems? Post it here.
- Want to debate with fellow users over political ideologies? Fight here.

Remember, there's no hard feelings. We'e all human beings and we all think differently and it's only natural for us to debate. Let's respect one another's opinions and have civil conversations!

Ice breaker topic:  Though unfortunately inevitable and likely irrevocable, A government run by polar opposite factions is inherently flawed (in this case Democrat & Republican) As the idea's an interests of those in the middle ground are lost as the divide between both sides grows larger.  Deadlock is common practice and efficiency is naught but a fantasy.  (In My Opinion)

EDIT: Looks like I was a little to late to break the ice.

I think we would benefit from a third party. With the two party system we have it ends up coming to extremes. I would like to have a side that get's a mix of the priorities from the other two that way they'll have to adapt to them.

Well it's like the British system, were you have a parliament. There's five parties that have seats federally.

  • The Progressive Conservative Party of Canada (ruling party, conservatism)
  • The New Democratic Party (official opposition, social democracy)
  • The Liberal Party of Canada (liberalism)
  • Bloc Québécois (separatists, social democracy)
  • The Green Party of Canada (green)

The current election is a provincial one, to decide if the Liberals stay in power or if a new premier is picked.
The party with the most seats (both federally and provincially) becomes the ruling party. The ruling party's leader becomes prime minister/ premier.

The election is going on. So far Republicans are doing good, they've gotten a Net Gain of +1 and they need 5 more to take the Senate.

This should be an interesting night.

Repubs, Demos, same shit overall. I am interested in stuff, but I'm so cynical as to the running of the country that I just can't find motivation to go out and vote.

All presidents have trained monkey's in the crowd to applaud them for whatever they do. He could announce that he's instituting the draft to invade china, and by the way we're now at war with china, and those people would applaud.

Goes without saying that I'm super jaded when it comes to national politics.

Haha fucking seriously. He was interrupted 76 times with the applause!

Anyways, I got just got done with the Republican Response. Basically, Obama is saying the same thing he's always said and he proposed that he'll VETO on 5 major issues one of those involving Obamacare. I thought it was good what he said about trade and the veterans, but basically it's everything I expected from him. =/

The Republican Response: The girl never made a speech like this before and she's a new face, but it wasn't anything that big. She basically said, the Republican Congress will fight against Obama and they'll try to work on some bipartisan things and Obama suggested the same thing. Also, she was a pain to listen to; very robotic tone.

So it wasn't really a big night, but it was enjoyable. I'm curious to see what this year will be like. I hope Obama and Congress can pass some good bills.
