• Playing a Wii game is a royal pain. Even after adding fresh batteries to my Wii controller, refreshing it numerous times and going online to troubleshoot, I still couldn't make the hand symbol show up to use menus on the TV screen. It was entirely by accident — swinging my arms to stretch them — that I caught a glimpse of the hand. After backing up 15 feet — into my kitchen — the hand finally showed up on screen so I could use the buttons. I swapped out the Wii U sensor bar with the classic one and, voila, perfect.

When the hand finally worked, I had to click through several menus just to play. At one point I said, out loud, "It shouldn't take this much work just to play a game."

Of all the consoles I have set up and operated for both myself and others, this one has been the most cumbersome.

• The package "deal." I'm really tired of console makers tossing games in with consoles. At first blush it seems like a good deal, and sometimes it is, but usually it's just a way to pad the price. I picked up the cheapest console out there for $250, but it came with "Skylanders," which the clerk said was a $75 value, and some introductory Wii U game that no one remembers anymore. I didn't want either of these games, especially "Skylanders," which you can't trade in to a store. Imagine how much it would have cost without all that superfluous stuff.

It's the same with the Wii, and it's the reason I opted for a Wii U. You can't find a Wii that doesn't come as a package, and I didn't want any of what Nintendo was offering. For the price, I might as well have bought a Wii U.

Packages are fine as long as you can buy the individual console, but that's getting to be increasingly difficult. You are usually strongarmed into buying a package because it's your only option, and that's not pleasant.

This the only reasonable complaint. No Ethernet port.
The only problem is that Wireless isn't your only option.

The main reason I wanted an Apple tablet is for remakes of classic games. Android has some, but not all of them. It's difficult to resist re-releases of your favorite games from childhood, and that's what's happening on smart devices.

The Mercedes Benz DLC is neat.

I purchased the bundle DLC and now have 9 colors of Yoshi and Shy Guy to choose from.
Now I wait for the DLC to release...
