Re: Anime Chat VIII
I hear that's the challenge with translating a couple of shows, such as Bakemonogatari or Sayonara Zetsubou sensei. I think XXXholic also kinda had that issue as well. (I've watched and enjoyed all of these)

I just want a show I can watch that either ends (actual conclusion) or has self contained episodes. In other words I want something I can finish one way or another.

I have no recommendations, since I don't know what is dubbed.

It never appealed to me. My brothers enjoyed it, though.

Netflix is shoving it in my face with a five star rating. In all honesty it does not look that interesting to me, but then again I said the same thing about D.Grayman and Sgt.Frog, both of which ended up as some of my all-time favorites.

Give it a try, I just don't have anything to say about it.

Re: Anime Chat VIII
So...Deadman wonderland is pretty fucked up, but considering it has a consistent tone I actually don't mind.
You know I think that is the answer to what I have been trying to pin down for a long time... Generally speaking I hate most violent deaths in anime because it seems at odds with the rest of the show, however if the show has consistent tone I don't mind it much at all.
that said: The theme-song for the show is pathetic.

Hell now that I think about it is probably part of the reason I enjoyed the Phantom Troupe and Chimera Ant arcs in HxH more than the other arcs, as the tone for the arcs was consistently darker. In the other arcs death felt out of place in most cases.

Phantom Troupe arc was so great. Kurapika is my favourite character. Wish he was the protagonist.

I wish we saw more of Leorio, I like him more than the rest simply because he has a believable human personality. Kinda sad hes not the chairman now, lol.

So, deadman wonderland was disappointing. I enjoyed it, but it never amounted to anything which made the entire show feel a bit pointless.

*Finishes another anime*
That was fun. I went in expecting gratuitous fanservice and violence and instead got an enjoyable lighthearted anime. Blow deadman wonderland out of the water and in terms of simple enjoyment I probably like it more than HxH and Magi, (Though seeing as it was a comedy, comparing them is a moot point)

Re: Anime Chat VIII
It is a feel good go nowhere kind of show, and in all honesty that is exactly what I needed. It seemed to fall apart a bit when it tried to be serious though, but thankfully it never dwelled on that for too long and focused on comedy; still, it does not hold a candle to Sgt.Frog.
I really want more Dubbed Sgt.Frog episodes...

Re: Anime Chat VIII
Jesus, I keep on missing Koenig's anime evolution! I should have been here earlier to talk D: Anyways....
The ending was extremely disappointing. The manga however is fucking awesome, it's one of my favorites. Before I really got into anime, Deadman Wonderland was actually one of the first animes I ever watched (I used to only watch Naruto for years because I thought everything else was "too weird"). When I was watching through it I was totally engaged, but then the ending just left a horrible taste in my mouth and I didn't even bother to watch any other anime after that. Then way later, my friend forced me to watch Gurren Lagann and my whole opinion on anime changed forever. Gurren Lagann was my true gateway into anime.
Anyways, back in first semester of college I decided to read the manga and it just blew the anime out of the water. It's a really easy manga to get into, I'd read it from the beginning because the anime left out a lot of key characters. You need to read it if you want a more satisfying ending.
This is good Koenig! You're getting more into anime ! Devil is a Part Timer is awesome. I hope they make another season one day....

The MC looks so different compared to the anime adaptation.
