I know I don't come by as much as I used too, but I always feel at home here. The rest of the internet is pretty frustrating. Even the CR community is getting on my nerves (actually, more like the tourney regulars or former tourney regulars).
Anime fans can very discriminatory and judgmental and in very passive ways.... it's pretty bad.

To any of you who have played/enjoyed either Paper Mario or South Park: The stick of truth, would you mind bouncing smoe concept idea's with me soon? More for the sake of hypothetical design than anything else.

I've gotten to know quite a few of the regulars over in the CR forum pretty well and this is what I've seen for quite a few of them: At first, everything seemed all dandy, but the more you got to know them and their tastes, the worst things got it seemed. Now, I don't want to speak for all fans, but I feel like the people I'm referring to are good examples of some of the things you'll find in the anime fanbase on the surface. There's a lot of good in the fanbase too and I'm friends with some good people, but some people just unbelievable.
I don't want to make this too long since it'd take a while to explain, but I've learned a lot from my experience there. Anime fans are different beast than video game fans. VG usually align with a certain brand, company, and studio. You know enough about VG fans, so I won't elaborate on that.
Anyways, with a lot of anime fans it's like a melting pot of different favorites and it's not just animes themselves, it's characters, genres, music, animation, art, ALL OF IT. People get very into characters especially and this can even cause divides within the some fanbases. Hell, look at the trainwreck of the Love Live fanbase, my god.
Studio Trigger would be an anime studio that's similar to a game company since they use similar directors, producers, artists, etc. And all their studios are very distinguishable. Just like I know when I'm playing a Nintendo game, I know when I'm watching a Trigger show.
At least with some of the people on CR I'm referring too, they put labels on you for liking that anime and that character. "Oh you like X-character? Obviously you like generic shounen protags...." When there's a lot more factors to that. People's tastes on anime are hard to pin down since each individual anime effects each person differently. Though I've seen a trend with some people that they get really pissy if you like/dislike a certain popular anime and then you get a label and then judging comes into play. Then, this leads to grudges that never truly go away.
It's really annoying since there's a certain group of people (the OG tourney folk) that are so narcissistic with their tastes, that they disregard anyone that likes a certain type of anime, regardless of their reasoning. Some of my really good friends on there have all noticed this and we've had to cut back our time in some threads since you feel like you're just getting ridiculed for some of your tastes! You have to be careful, since most of these people just feed on negativity.
Elitism is terrible among anime fans. I try my best to be as open minded as possible, but even sometimes I find myself judging someone for liking X-anime. The solution to what I've found is just to be civil and calmly debate things when needed. However, a lot of the people I'm talking about are very passive and don't like conflict. So they'll write off something without even backing up what they say, I can get in a fight with someone, but they've already made up their mind and they aren't budging because you have a label on you. It's very unhealthy and it's fucking annoying.
I'm one of the more vocal guys on there and have made a name for myself. Though I've had to lay off since I just can't handle the judging and bullshit that goes on in there. And some people are very anti-hype and can't take even a sliver of excitement from people.
When first was starting up, I was very enthusiastic and would bring a lot of excitement into the air. Everything to me was so new and fun, and I thought everyone was trying to have fun too.... But it eventually back fired on me and I learned that a lot of anime fans are stern and strict on their tastes. I've calmed down quite a lot and I've gotten a fair decent amount of anime under my belt now that I've developed my tastes pretty well and know what I like, and can now start noticing trends in anime. Though, I try to still be a bit enthusiastic because it's so boring not being excited.
Some people think they're cool for not showing excitement and will make fun of you for showing excitement. This can make it very hard on new fans that are just cruising by threads and just simply want to happily talk about SAO or something. Some people can be fanboys for sure and they should be called out, but some people just haven't watched enough anime and you should cut them some slack.
I know some of the people on there like AnimeKami, GoldTStar (He is fucking terrible, worst user on CR), and that think they are BETTER than other people because they've watched more anime! These people have their heads are so far up their ass that they don't even remember what the sun looks like anymore. If someone even misinterprets one thing or gets one minor detail wrong, they'll immediately make fun of you and start calling you a noob or whatever. GoldTStar, at least I've told to fuck off a few times, he can literally go eat a dick.
These people are perfect examples of terrible anime fans that are discriminatory, vicious, and elitists, that cannot fathom newcomers or people with different views. People like them are pathetic, and don't have much going on in their life so this is how they make themselves feel better about their lives. Going around trying to be some type of rulers of the forum because of their "superiority". This is why some people may get scared of the anime fanbase because of people like them. It's a pretty sad truth.
It's like the hardcore gamers vs the causal gamers, same type of thing.
There's a lot of stereotyping, elitism, and factions within the anime community and I think it's a big problem. CR is not as bad as MAL, but the people I'm referring to can very bad and annoying since they're very passive aggressive and disregard things without giving it a second thought. CR is a pretty tame community, but it still shares a lot of the same problems. MAL has more trolls, but CR I think has more passive aggressive elitists.
It's funny because I call these people "tourney folk", but most of them don't even participate in the tourneys anymore because their favorites don't win and they think everyone else has shit taste (they've said it on multiple occasions) and can't even fathom why someone would like this character or this anime. I'm not saying everyone has to be on board with each other, but I believe there's a certain type of civility, maturity, and respectfulness that should be upheld with people's views.
I could probably write a book on all this stuff, so I'll just stop it here. Luna would probably tell you something similar as well. She knows what goes on in the anime community.
Lol, this is probably much more than you wanted, but I had to unleash a little steam

Would you guys be down for bouncing some game mechanics and story setup ideas in the creative section then? More or less I the game in question would be similar in design to the two games that I mentioned.

Sounds like the Omnifaction/General Gaming all over again tbh. I'm not a fan of most forums. I've seen the same thing on the MLP forum when I used to be a member of. These people would seriously come up with the weirdest and most asinine things I've every heard of about the show and then would fight to the death to prove everyone else's opinion wrong
(Like the theory that one character has asbergers, or another is secretly a very cruel character despite no evidence to prove it).
I mean what kind of category would the elitists put me in? Someone who loves ecchii while also loving Hellsing Ultimate and Bebop, adores Paranoia Agent and The Devil is Part Time, while also watching ANOTHER and Hamtaro?!

Re: Gen Chat 9: THE HORROR!
That has never changed though
Speaking of offended...I am growing very tired of the "attack" on "Straights" and "Whites" That the world has started building towards.
If you use a white person in anything these days...it's bad.

But all of that will be marred by having my own skin edited out, rendered worthless and silent and invisible when a South Asian man is portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch up on that screen. In the original Trek, Khan, with his brown skin, was an Übermensch, intellectually and physically perfect, possessed of such charisma and drive that despite his efforts to gain control of the Enterprise, Captain Kirk (and many of the other officers) felt admiration for him.
And that’s why the role has been taken away from actors of colour and given to a white man. Racebending.com has always pointed out that villains are generally played by people with darker skin, and that’s true … unless the villain is one with intelligence, depth, complexity. One who garners sympathy from the audience, or if not sympathy, then — as from Kirk — grudging admiration. What this new Trek movie tells us, what JJ Abrams is telling us, is that no brown-skinned man can accomplish all that. That only by having Khan played by a white actor can the audience engage with and feel for him, believe that he’s smart and capable and a match for our Enterprise crew.

also Paranoia Agent sucks :3
Another is a decent comedy at least.
speaking of all of those, you have seen No Game No Life right?
- Spoiler:
- I like to think I am pretty open to things, if you like weird things so be it, or hate stuff I like big deal, doesn't change my enjoyment. I just want more people to watch Steven Universe so I can talk about it with more people lol

America is devolving in a nation of sniveling pansies that get offended by everything and anything that even mildly bugs them nowadays. Where's there is a spark, you can cause an inferno.
Also, the person who played Khan in the new Star Trek wasn't white. That's racist towards lizard people.

@ Zulu
I've been having a lot of anime moments lately. Luna got me into "So is this a Zombie" whereas I finished Hellsing Ultimate with an erection in my pants.
Echii is super fun - obsessed with Highschool DXD and I loved Cat Planet Cuties and "So Can't Play H".
Haven't seen ANOTHER but I really want too. Seen a lot of the deaths and the storyline sounds fascinating.
@ Lux
I completely agree. We are seriously starting to lose focus on a lot of the important issues over this whole PC bullshyt. I am tired of seeing our opinions now rendered as blashpemous because we are white or straight.
Like the "boy" who identified as a girl and is now demanding to use the girls lockerroom. The girls of the school don't want him in their lockerroom but their opinion was regarded as "trans-phobic" and that their being uncomfortable was the same as whites not wanting to be around blacks in the 60s...
despite the issue here being THEY DON'T WANT A BOY WHO ADMITTED TO STILL LIKING GIRLS IN THEIR LOCKERROOM NAKED!
