-Mazer wrote:It's called building intensity, atmosphere, and getting to know your characters. Alien was about Suspense more than anything else.
I'm not even talking about action and I like that you brought up Sinister. Sinister grabs your attention immediately and keeps you hooked throughout the entire movie with the mystery surrounding bagul. The first 3rd of Alien just feels like straight padding, arguably there is a good bit of world building, but the only thing that really sticks out during the first 3rd is Parker complaining about bonuses and shares. The buildup, to me, doesn't truly begin until after Kane wakes up and subsequently dies.-Mazer wrote:TensePsychopath wrote:Agree with Mazer. I love the slow buildup and atmosphere. There's no effective tension if you just jump into the action right away.
That's what most of the newer Alien/Predator films have been - action. To me, the only good action version of Alien is the 2nd one because it follows the sequel rule of "Bigger, better, more". But Aliens follows ALIEN by focusing on story, suspense, and tension. The action is there yes but there are a lot of moments of down time where people are scared out of their minds and surrounded without knowing what will happen.
Horror movies today never introduce you to the characters. We just go in and start the killing.
The GREAT horror films (Conjuring, Sinister, Insidious) follow characters and give us more atmosphere and character development before actually getting into the horror.
I do probably need to rewatch the first half since I was busy mostly fighting to stay awake since I put it on like around 11pm >.> but, as it stands, the first 30 minutes to me is just throw away filler, along with other random chunks throughout the movie.
- Spoiler:
- Also, I was under the impression that Ripley would spend more time in her panties lol All the parody things I've seen really kinda just ran away with that tiny bit more than anything

Pros:
- Spoiler:
I love the continuation of the concept that Bruce/Ash is always a loser living in a trailer. Like no matter what happens he doesn't really "win" in life. Went from hero to born loser XD
I also really enjoy the look of the Deadites. They are literally as if they came off the set of Evil Dead 2. The gore was fantastic, the action was straight up Evil Dead status. I didn't mind the CGI blood as they really incorporated the real stuff after the fact and kept the actors bloody.
That sex scene...omg XD!!!!!
Hmm...I am still a bit skeptical of Ash using the book even if he were getting high...but then again, 30 years without a single Deadite Outbreak could put him in a false sense of security...
You?

- I love how Ash missed the no-look dart throw, sums him up perfectly. The scene with the doll in the Valumart reminded me of something out of the Army of Darkness comics.
I don't think he was in a false sense of security, he had a switch for his shotgun after all. Maybe he's just getting careless in his old age.

My internet has been this bad for about two days.
I just got a new modem from them, too. The Internet was great until yesterday.
No idea why.

Hmm... About a B+ in the Speed Test?
I can't even stream a video from Crunchyroll on SD or 480p with this shoddy connection. The internet has been severely unstable.

I hate when that happens. It's usually on their end too and they lag to respond to it.

Re: Gen Chat 9: THE HORROR!
So, it's November 3rd aka the 3rd day of NaNoWriMo and I sort of initially decided that I wasn't gonna do this cause Inktober wore me out, big time.....
Right now I'm debating jumping in or not. I'd have to hit 5k words by tonight in order to be on track....

I'm sure you have fantasized about life is strange characters enough to make a 50k romantic novel
just remember you can repeat these lines a lot
"oh god." 2 words
"oh my god chloe" 4 words
"oh my god max" 4 words
"you are so good" 4 words
best part is you can rewind time and do the sex scenes multiple times with just slight variations MWA HA HA HA
thus you will get to 50k words in no time >.>

he most likely won't, but it's always my answer on how people can win nanowrimo.
legend likely won't do it because he would feel like he will be bad at it.
