Throwing my hat into the Wii U discussion.  I firmly believe the Wii U would have been a success if Nintendo had done three things:

1.  Sold the gamepad separately and marketed it primarily as a way to play games off of the TV with the exception of the few designed specifically for it. This would shaved around $70 off the base cost of the system and made it more appealing.

2.  Allow for DS/3DS compatibility for those who bought a Gamepad or already had a 3DS system to stream it to.  This would have vastly increased the potential market share without actually cutting into the 3DS profits, and likely encouraging the purchase of both.  The Gamepad could also be sold at a profit to match any potentially lost 3DS sales.

3.  Good marketing.



Granted there are other factors to consider, but I am certain that if these three points had been met the Wii U would have had at least two to three times as many units sold as it does now.

I don't think #2 is possible, even with the N3DS. Not enough inputs and, discounting that, I'm not sure if the wireless performance between the two would be good enough for that type of consistent streaming. Throw in the hyper low resolution screens of the 3DS on top of all that and map and item functions wouldn't work all that well.

the 3ds really should have just been designed with the wiiu in mind from the start.

I mean the thing originally launched at $250, it could have had much better features at launch.

after like a 30k word detour I can finally use my original draft as a semi reference point again.

not that it will help to much with what is coming as it is using a completely different battle system that isn't very compatible with my current system, but it is still nice to be going through my original draft again, even if it is only going to be for a bit before doing something different again.

nice part though... this second arc is around the same % done as the first arc and they are both around the same amount of words. when finished they should both be 70-85k words which isn't a horrible amount of words for a single book for each of them.

on the flip side in my original draft originally set to end the first book at the end of the next arc which would have been around 70-85k words. should give you an idea of how much more is going into this draft

when I finish this arc though I will likely go back and finish the first arc, and then finally start sharing it with select people so they can tell me how badly I am wasting my time and that I shouldn't be writing

and then I will ignore them and continue as my wife doesn't mind my story and wants to know what eventually happens as she only knows stuff through part of the 5th arc >.>

If they treat the male GB juts like the fem GB, which means like a modern comedy, it will suck just as bad.

But I can see it happen, they make an actually good Ghostbusters movie this time that has the feel of the original, it becomes a success, and the regressives will whine about soggy knees again "look look, the new GB is successful only because it has men in it, SEXISMSMSMSMSM"
Makes me almost wish that it will suck too, lol.

Both the 3DS and Wii U should have been designed with the other in mind. Co-functionality between the two could have been a driving feature.



B. I meant that the 3DS would allow you to use it as a controller while you play 3DS/DS games, not that it had to be compatible as a base gamepad (Although enough forethought to do that would have been a major boon to both systems imo)
