Re: WSS Anime Thread Vol. II
*someone who loved Elfen Lied and gave both manga and anime a 10*
Hmm....summarizing from what I remember and trying to avoid spoilers, it's about girls who have mutated and developed supernatural powers, but tend to become murderous and kill everyone around them, including their own family. There's the usual evil organization trying to use them as weapons and whatnot. It's a really tragic story and is brutal at times, in both violence and emotional impact.
------
Caught up to Usolily, dammit when I started this, I had read that it ended! But it seems like I had misread it as it was "ending." So now I have to play the waiting game. D;
It's really good though, so many types of couples(even gay ones).

Re: WSS Anime Thread Vol. II
I finished Sword Art Online today. I enjoyed the show, but the first half of the series was significantly better than the latter half, however the show scores some massive points in my book because it had the sense to have an epilogue episode.
Random complaints:
Random complaints:
- Spoiler:
- Because the show dropped the mortality aspect mid-series it felt fractured and made the deaths up to that point meaningless. I honestly would have enjoyed the show a lot more had it either stuck with the mortality aspect all the way through or had never used it to begin with.
The villain in the second half was just crap
Aside from the two main characters there was little to no character development, there were several other characters who deserved a lot more screen time in my opinion

Just finished Sidonia no Kishi/Knights of Sidonia, gave it a 9. Was really good and a second season has been confirmed, I am happy. Second best show of the year so far, for me.

The second half was very weak in comparison. It was nice and it still managed to be fun, but it was really not the same. Not until the last two episodes at least.
- Spoiler:
- Unfortunately that's basically how it went down in the Light Novel. So they just adapted it as is. If I were the director, I think I would have changed the entire story of the second half completely. It was weak to begin with so I would just revamp it. I think it was good to have Asuna still trapped in the game because of the villain. But instead of Asuna being trapped in a cage and the other 300 players being in limbo, what if the villain put them through death trials almost everyday and whoever failed the trial would get their mind altered and would never be able to be the same. Maybe something like that to make it more interesting and that way Asuna wouldn't have to be reduced to just a damsel and she would still be fighting for her life while waiting for Kirito to get her out. Then Kirito could still save her by accessing the tree in ALO or whatever to free her.
ALO just wasn't that great and I would have changed it or just leave it out completely and then have an episode of epilogue.

Re: WSS Anime Thread Vol. II
- Spoiler:
- Going back to my statement that they should have stuck with theme or another, what was the point of adding mortality to the game to begin with? The original villains goal could have been and indeed was achieved without violence in the end (the seed) so why did so many have to suffer to begin with? It was out of character by comparison to what they showed of the villain. If they wanted to keep mortality they could have introduced the second villain as the cause rather than outright trapping the players in the game; or on the flipside they could have abandoned the mortality aspect altogether. Even though the second half was weaker than the first I don't think it was because of the lack of death- The entire series would have still been interesting to me without the risk of characters dying.

Well.....
- Spoiler:
- I thought Kayaba was a good villain personally. He was someone who was a recluse and didn't understand humans. He created something that would force humans to go to their limits and he just didn't care for human emotions or anything. It wasn't till Kirito and Asuna showed him what humans are truly capable of and it changed his perspective on everything. That's why he committed suicide because his whole philosophy on life was crushed by two teenagers. He had a change of heart.
Sugou on the other hand was just a terrible person through and through.
I think having death to begin with was a good idea. It made it more intense and engaging. You take out death and then Kayaba's whole purpose wouldn't have been fulfilled. He wanted to push humans to the limits and see if they could overcome this obstacle.
It's the second half where it got weird. In the second half they shouldn't have treated death like this big deal. Kirito was taking it seriously because he had a mission and was still used to SAO. The other characters on the other hand shouldn't of thought much of it. They should have just treated it like normal players and not try to make it this dramatic thing. It just looked stupid.
They shouldn't have taken out the death, but they should have just fixed up the ALO arc. That's it. Don't touch the first half. It's fine, it's the second half that wasn't as good.

Re: WSS Anime Thread Vol. II
- Spoiler:
- I think Kayaba was a great character, however he did not match up to villain that what was shown during any part of the show. His excuse for forcing players to die? "I don't even remember" Likewise he did not kill himself out of shame, He died as his brain was scanned; essentially transferring his consciousness to the game itself. (Which is how he showed up later) His end goal was never dictated as pushing people to their limits, but was instead clearly stated about creating and controlling a world (Which he clearly could have done outside of trapping people in it)
Even though it was the writers intent was to have him be the villain, I have a hard time seeing him doing any of the crime committed, Which is why I think the series could have benefited more from a primarily non perilous story.
The entire series could have simply been players trying to get through SOA with Kayaba behind the scenes, however if they really wanted to ramp up death they could have added Sugou's plot as a kind of behind the scenes sabotage- It was clearly shown that he did not like Kayaba and it is most certainly something he could have done.
But I digress, we are getting into the realm of fictional what ifs; the story could have been written a thousand different ways that were better or worse so there is not much point in partaking in this kind of theorizing.

I did not know that SOA even had a sequel in production. I will probably hold off watching it until it is finished so I can marathon it again.

I've been marrathoning blue exorcist. Interesting, but I do have a number of reservations with it, mainly the common cliches.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the General dude fight. He looks so strong!
And Rabac better not fucking die. I love Rabac!!!! Also I'm surprised that Wave took Ran's transformation so well. I mean, he isn't happy about it, but I thought he was going to freak out.

I finished Blue Exorcist, I am indifferent about it over all. I liked alot of concepts and their execution, but by the same merit I was also annoyed by some of them as well. However my main gripe against the show was its dependency on cliches.

This is pretty much how I felt. I thought some things were kind of wasted on. The dependency on the cliches was pretty lame, like that while ending was just..... Cliche cliche cliche cliche BOOM! cliche cliche. I mean cliches don't bug me that much usually, but that ending was just.... ugh....

Re: WSS Anime Thread Vol. II
I heard the anime of Blue Exorcist deviated from the manga, especially the end of the anime.
Also, hoping for no deaths....lol. I'm preparing for pain.
