I blame the second season.

Clearly the second season doesn't stop fans from desiring a spinoff series to be animated.Luna wrote:I blame the second season.

Indeed....I think. I dunno. I didn't finish the second season and haven't watched anything relating to the series since then. I just remember the massive hate the second season got.

Endless 8 was certainly something to be very annoyed about. It was a terrible decision to try something like that. It left a bad taste in many people's mouths.Luna wrote:Indeed....I think. I dunno. I appreciate the dedication to recreate the episodes, though. They all weren't 100% the same, besides main scenes.

Yeah, I watched it many years after it initially came out and didn't think it was as awful as others....but I still dropped it 'cuz it bored me.

Koenig wrote:The only way American animation will take off in propper is if a number of studio's or a major publisher push such animation. Disney and Warner Brothers used to have the power to do something like this, but sadly they have scrapped the majority of their 2D animation assets.
It'd be awesome if Disney did something like that, but you're right in that their major focus isn't 2D animation at the moment (which is stupid!!!!). What gets me is that the head of Disney, John Lasseter, gave this awesome speech for Hayao Miyazaki during the Governor Awards (Miyazaki won an oscar) and he said Miyazaki showed that animation isn't just for children and that was something that he tried to convince his bosses for years during his early years.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93-gRTUrHa8
What gets me is that he says that, but Disney makes nothing but children movies/tv shows. Fucking hypocritical bullshit during that speech because he and Disney doesn't even experiment with more mature content. If Disney wanted to, they could probably open some kickass 2D animation studios that could make anime-like content and rival that of Japanese studios. But, I don't know if that'll ever happen which is a huge shame because they could appeal to more than just kids and could afford it too. Disney has a huge fucking wallet.
Luna wrote:I would put more trust in places like Netflix or Amazon. I'd love to see a webcomic like Battledog get an animated series.
Or even HBO, but you're right. Those companies have a higher chance of experimenting with anime-like content than Disney.
It'd be awesome if HBO had a 2D animation studio because then all the content would be uncensored!

While the second season isn't that loved, the first season and sequel movie to second season are extremely popular. Have you not watched the movie yet? I believe this is the conclusion to the Haruhi timeline:

I know how loved the movie is, and I have it downloaded it. It's just that I can never get in the mood to watch it.

I've watched both Japanese sub and English dub of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.ColumbianLoom wrote:While the second season isn't that loved, the first season and sequel movie to second season are extremely popular. And no, I don't think this concludes the Haruhi Timeline.

Gargoyles was Disney's last cartoon that touched on "mature" content, and it was fantastic.

Re: Anime Chat VIII
I just finished Wakfu. I loved it.
It had a very unique and creative art style and well written story to boot. While a bit childish at times (It is a PG rated show after all) it had a sense of scale and "epic-ness" that I have not seen in a non-anime outside of Avatar. it also has one of the best villains I have ever seen in an animated show.
It is by no means perfect, as at times odd animation and poor voice acting undermined its other aspects; however as a whole I absolutely recommend it to those looking for some fun.

Re: Anime Chat VIII
I have a case of post anime depression compounded by the fact that my favorite character in said anime died on the last episode. PG shows should not be doing this to me!

Wakfu. How is it that a PG children's show is tugging on my heart strings more than most other movies and anime I have seen combined?

You were watching it on netflix? Also, that link you gave me for it, earlier, seems to not be working. Well, it is, but I keep getting a warning and encouraged to leave it.

I used Netflix to watch the show, yes. What kind of warning are you getting? Do you have adblock? I will see if I can find another site in the mean time.Luna wrote:You were watching it on netflix? I have adblock, but that's not the issue. I'm just being told that it's an "unsafe" site.

Odd. I have never gotten hat message despite visiting the site site and checking several times. I guess that means that one of the links is connected to a less than reputable site.
Try this link, it goes to an alternate video source.

Why is Blonde hair/bleached hair so strange in Anime, but Blue hair is kind of normal?

Re: Anime Chat VIII
All natural blondes are foreigners or mixed. Usually from Britain, but occasionally from France, Russia, the US, or Scandinavian country. Also, blonde hair is super common in these places and people look at dark hair as an oddity.
As for bleached hair, that's the realm of the delinquent. Only bad people dye their hair.

Re: Anime Chat VIII
Hair is also a great way to pre-determine main characters in almost every anime. If the hair is brown or black, chances are that they are unimportant. Now if their hair is blond, blue, green, or any other odd color, the probably have an important role to play.
