Re: Anime Chat VIII
From the synopsis I read, I thought it was gonna be like an anime version of "kick ass." Like vigilantes without super powers or any super human abilities. Even the mal tags just have it set up as "action" and "comedy." I would totally not expect that to happen.

Re: Anime Chat VIII
that is basically what the show was (Though a lot less gritty than Kick Ass) But then out of no where they dropped that bomb. There was no foreshadowing, no explanation, no logic. It was not a "surprise" so much as complete retardation.

Re: Anime Chat VIII
Yeah, I would guess so. Seems it was trying to be edgy or something.

Re: Anime Chat VIII
After examining the rest of the show I get the impression that the entire thing was meant to be a parody of various super hero genres. I nifty idea, but the problem comes from the fact that they change tone well after establishing the tone they are already taking. Had the tone changed on an episode to episode basis this would be fine; shows like space Dandy and the like rely on short iteration of their concepts like this so it never gets worn out or familiar; but by dropping such a tonal shift almost three hours into watching the show it commits a taboo in my book. This is not edgy, this is not smart, this is not even artistic. This is a failure.

Ya me too! Maybe it's because I enjoy that all the core relationships are already built up and that the situations going on are a bit more tense? Also Hachiman is really great this season, I liked him last season, but even he is crawling out of his negative shell and outlook on life is getting better, which I appreciate it.
I don't know, I just like how this season is going. I really liked the first season, but I wanted more from it. I enjoy that this season is diving into new territory while still having its awesome cast constantly evolving. I like the direction it's going in.
Koenig wrote:Just found and watched Gargantia. (13 episodes, so a nice long evening of anime) If I had to summaries the setting in a nutshell, it would be Water-World crossed with Battlestar Galactica; albeit with a mech or two because Japan.
Over-all I enjoyed the show a lot. It is by no means the best anime I have ever seen, but It is a cut above the rest. The melodrama is kept to a minimum, the setting is interesting, and the animation is good. I particular loved the color plate the show used, as it was much more colorful and bright than other shows I have seen recently. (Though the first-half of the first episode was a bit gaudy for my taste, thankfully the rest of the show looked far better)
Ya, I really liked Gargantia. There was some themes in it that were totally backwards like the civilians being like, "ya, we'll just look tough and not kill the pirates! We'll also let them rape us because that's better than them being dead! Death is bad no matter what type of person they are, right?" Fucking idiots. Luckily the pirate subplot goes away fast because that was so bad lol.
It was a touching tale about Ledo finding his humanity and Amy and the rest of the Gargantia crew were a n interesting bunch. Too bad the second season got canceled, it's such a shame. I hope the sequel novel will at least get published in english.
Also make sure to watch the OVAs.

K6821 Chamber is the only character I truly liked in the show.ColumbianLoom wrote:

Yeah, I agree with you. Chamber was the best thing from that show. Other than that, it was incredibly forgettable.

Oooooh Luna, I see that you've participated in the 2014 Battle thread
But you're making it harder for SAO to move on, damn you! Lol. But I'm glad that you participated.

I didn't like SAOII at all, so don't expect any support from me at all for that one.
Anyhow, I was bummed that Hoozuki no Reitetsu didn't making it pass the nominations. I really loved that show.

Re: Anime Chat VIII
The OP is really catchy and fun. I'd almost equate it to the ending for Kekkai Sensen....but not really, because that ending is just great. Then again, I get the same feeling of "fun time" when I watch both.

I started watching My Little Monster on Netflix. I don't know what to think about it so far, but it is the only animated show available right now to interest me.

I can only name three anime I would undoubtedly watch off of that chart.

I love that series a lot, especially the manga. Shizuku can be really adorable, too:Koenig wrote:I started watching My Little Monster on Netflix. I don't know what to think about it so far, but it is the only animated show available right now to interest me.

Now if only it were dubbed...While the voice actors may be more appropreate in a subtitled anime, I much prefer being able to understand thru hearing rather than reading.

Re: Anime Chat VIII
Finally saw Battle of the Gods DBZ - probably one of the best DBZ things I've seen in ages. For once nothing was seriously thrown out of context/canon (as many of the DBZ movies do). I love the God of Destruction as he was actually a real character instead of another mindless "Kill Goku" drone. The humor was very strong as well and I loved seeing Vegeta flip over to honor Bulma
Re: Anime Chat VIII
Been re-reading Horimiya and gods I find Miyamura hot. He really appeals to me. @__@
